STURTEVANT, Wisc. – 2 June 2014 – In response to the escalation and regional expansion of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), Sealed Air’s Diversey Care division today launched a MERS Prevention and Outbreak Response Toolkit. The resource provides knowledge and tools to address this emerging pathogen, and highlights key prevention strategies including hand hygiene and surface cleaning and disinfection.

“Creating and maintaining safe environments is of the utmost importance to our customers. We want to provide them with resources and tools that can be quickly deployed to address this threat and ensure safety for staff and visitors,” said Carolyn Cooke, Diversey Care’s North American Vice President for Healthcare. “In this toolkit, we’ve compiled resources from the World Health Organization (WHO), Health Canada and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to protect staff, patients and the public from this global threat.”

According to the WHO, there have been more than 570 confirmed cases of MERS, including 171 deaths. The number of countries with confirmed cases continues to expand since it was first detected in Saudi Arabia in 2012. There is currently no medical treatment for an individual with MERS, which is believed to spread between people in close contact. Thus, preventing transmission is essential for containing the virus.

The toolkit is available online at Diversey Care’s Solutions Designed for Healthcare Resource Centre at www.sdfhc.com. Diversey Care is a division of Sealed Air Corp., a leader in food safety and security, facility hygiene and product protection.
